How NAATI CCL Unlocks the 5 PR Points

Passing NAATI CCL earns five Credentialed Community Language (CCL) points. Combined with age, English, employment and education points, this bonus often bridges the gap to the 65-point requirement for skilled visas.

Who can claim the points

Points are available to Skilled Migration applicants who pass NAATI CCL in the last 3 years.

Where the points apply

Subclass 189, 190 and 491 visas all accept the NAATI CCL credential.

Proof you must submit

Upload the NAATI “Result Advice” PDF to SkillSelect or state nomination portals.

How to Claim the Five Points

  1. Pass NAATI CCL. The credential is valid indefinitely, but for migration purposes it must be completed after the age of 18 and before lodging your SkillSelect EOI.
  2. Collect your Result Advice letter. NAATI emails a PDF containing your name, test language, and pass confirmation. Save it; you will upload this as evidence.
  3. Update SkillSelect. When creating or editing your EOI, tick “Yes” for Credentialed Community Language. Attach the Result Advice under the “Documents” section.
  4. For state nomination. If applying for subclass 190 or 491, upload the same document to the state portal. Some states (e.g., NSW) also request proof of community use of the language – keep volunteer or work records handy.

Points are added immediately in SkillSelect once the EOI is lodged. If you sat NAATI CCL after submitting an EOI, update your claim so the system recalculates your total.

Where the CCL Points Fit in Your Visa Plan

Subclass 189

Independent skilled visa. Every point counts because invitations are issued to top scorers. NAATI CCL often boosts candidates from 60 to 65+ points.

Subclass 190 / 491

State nominated visas. Many states explicitly award ranking bonuses to applicants with NAATI CCL, especially for community-focused occupations.

Partner points, professional year, and regional study bonuses can stack with the NAATI CCL five points, but you cannot claim both CCL and interpreter/translator qualifications for the same language.

Real Timeline Example

  • Week 0: Candidate sits NAATI CCL Hindi and passes with 71/90.
  • Week 1: Result Advice uploaded to SkillSelect; total points jump from 60 to 65.
  • Week 6: NSW nomination invitation issued for subclass 190 with 75 points (including state nomination bonus).
  • Week 10: Visa lodged with NAATI evidence and supporting documents.

Keep all NAATI correspondence in a dedicated folder. Case officers sometimes request re-confirmation if processing extends beyond 12 months.
